mens green parka jacket fur:GB SKI TEAM MEET THE ATHLETES DAISI DANIELS & CALUM LANGMUIR
Continuing our celebrations of fifteen years in support of the British Youth ski team, we jumped at the chance to have a chat with some of the young athletes. Daisi Daniels and Calum Langmuir took the time to answer a few of our questions before they set off to compete across Europe.
HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN SKIING FOR, HOW DID YOU GET STARTED?
Callum: I’ve been skiing for 11 years. I started skiing in our back garden and holding a rope behind a skidoo when I was 3
Daisi: I first started skiing on a family holiday when I was 4 or 5. We went to Alpbak in Austria for a 1 week holiday with friends. At first I didn’t want to put the skis on but after some persuading I put them on and by the end of the day I wouldn’t take them off and my ski instructor had to stamp on my bindings to get them off me as I tried to ski away from her for another go down the course, I just wanted to ski more and more.
WHAT DO YOU LOVE ABOUT SKIING?
Callum: I love that I feel freedom, I love the feeling of skiing.
Daisi: I love the adrenaline I get when I ski fast, the excitement of the chance of winning, the speed and feeling of skiing is exciting to me.

HOW DOES IT FEEL TO BE REPRESENTING YOUR COUNTRY ON AN INTERNATIONAL LEVEL? WHERE WILL YOU COMPETE THIS YEAR?
Daisi: It feels brilliant! I am overwhelmed, I feel honoured and so proud to be wearing the GBR uniform and to be flying the flag for my country it is the best feeling ever!! I am so lucky I have been chosen for the International races Andorra at the end of January and Topolino at the beginning of March, I am going to work hard to try and get picked for the La Scara race as I did it last year and loved it so much. The British races I am hoping to do are the English Championships in Bormio in February and the British Championships in Tignes at the end of March. I may also try to do the Interschool’s race so I can get a hoody for my headmaster with the schools name on it, he would like that, a present as for him as he lets me have the time from school to let me train.
IN WHAT WAYS WOULD YOU SAY YOU’VE BENEFITED FROM SKIING?
Callum: I’ve made good friends and met great people
Daisi: I would say I have traveled up and down Great Britain, all over Europe and as far as Canada with my skiing, skiing has helped me become more independent and confident, I have met lots of different people and made lots of new friends from all over the world. Skiing has helped me with my languages like German and French. I think these are the best benefits skiing has given me.

WHAT ARE YOUR FUTURE GOALS, DO YOU SEE YOURSELF MOVING FURTHER WITH SKIING?
Callum: I want to keep getting better, yes I want to ski World Cup one day.
WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO YOUNG SKIERS LOOKING TO GET STARTED?
Callum: Don’t give up what you love to do.
Daisi: The advice I would give to younger skiers is to never give up, keep practicing, always listen to your coach and have fun because skiing is a lot of fun!
We’ll catch up with some more of the team in the coming weeks. You can see more about how the team are getting on on the BSS Website or right here on the Trespass Blog.
